The development of the Segro Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway (SLPEMG) continues apace and reaching key stages – recently power was switched on at the 700 acre site.

The connection of the 28 MVA supply means that the companies who will be taking space will be able to begin installing technology.

The 700 acre site has planning consent for up to 6,000,000 sf of logistics space and the rail freight terminal will be capable of handling up to 16 freight trains per day, container storage and HGV parking.

Scheduled for completion in April 2019, key organisations have already secured units. The site is also being considered as an expansion of Heathrow Airport to manufacture and pre-assemble materials and components. A delegation from the Airport has visited the logistics park and a strong case has been put forward for the East Midlands state of the art hub as an ‘inland port’.

DBS recognised Castle Donington and the East Midlands as an excellent area for business over 25 years ago, when the first of the dbs business centres opened.

Since then, Castle Donington has seen a tremendous growth of business around East Midlands Airport and Trent Lane and now has the Government backed scheme of the rail hub. It is rewarding to see our foresight was spot on!

Not really surprising, given Castle Donington is so well connected with the M1, A50 and A42 converging to link nationally, the airport and the existing rail links.

This offers huge reach and potential to businesses based here and business to business opportunities across 3 major local cities and 3 counties.

Furthermore, organisations can draw from a huge potential workforce with approximately 1 million people living within 30 minutes’ drive and a pipeline from 6 universities.

Like East Midlands Gateway, DBS has a significant number of big names businesses who see the value and benefit of being in the area and, from our perspective, our serviced offices, meeting rooms and accommodation. With the new hub attracting more, the area will continue to grow, evolve and thrive.
